Predefined Project no 5: “School education against legal exclusion”

Project duration: 1st September, 2013 – 30th April, 2016

Project value: 610 000 EUR

Objective of the project:

The objective of the project is: to improve access to justice, including for vulnerable persons (e.g. victims, minors, minorities)

Expected outcomes of the project:

  • disseminated knowledge on the functioning of the justice system among minors in lower secondary schools
  • disseminated knowledge on the functioning of the justice system among minors in secondary schools

Justification for the project:

This project is a continuation of activities within the framework of the educational policy of the MoJ, implemented with support of the EU funds. Thanks to gained experience it will be possible to implement good practice developed during previous undertakings in a wider range. Evaluation of the already implemented support (the results of the evaluation are presented in the description of the pre-defined project “School education against legal exclusion”) indicate that proposed educational meetings contribute to the significant increase in knowledge about the functioning of the justice system and rights at court.

Main activities of the project:

Educational meetings for young people from lower secondary schools and secondary schools, including the development of innovative training materials (specially designed educational program and teaching materials). During the meetings it is planned to carry out a simulation of a court case and make the students play the roles of the main actors in the court proceedings: judges, prosecutors, defendants, victims and witnesses on the basis of the case study they are given. For younger children it is planned to organize meetings with role-plays, quizzes and other activating methods, so that through play and workshop they could be equipped with practical knowledge and education to support the development of appropriate attitudes towards the law.

Main target group:

Young people from lower secondary schools and secondary schools.

Project Promoter:

Department of International Cooperation and Human Rights.
